Computer / Laptop Specification for Coding / programming
Computer / Laptop Specification for Coding / programming
For the web developer, I would recommend the minimum specs:
·
CPU: At least an Intel i3,
if you can go for i5 or i7 then it will best option. Dual core CPUs would be
minimum.
·
GPU: Even the integrated
graphics card in the CPU would sufficient but if possible, grab at least 2~4GB graphics
card.
·
RAM: 4~8 GB may be sufficient,
but I'd prefer 16GB, as it need to open multiple applications.
·
Storage: 500Gb hard drive
will be enough but try to get bigger hard drive storage, so I will refer 1TB
HDD minimum. If you want faster speed of
computer (read/write speeds ) & booting time then opt for a SSD
(solid-state drive). But remember, an SSD is not cheap, in that case you can
opt for 500GB SSD.
·
Display: Go for at least
a 13-inch LED screen with at least a 1366x768 resolution. If you can go for
full HD then it will be excellent.
For the programmer that develop non-graphically and/non-computationally
intensive applications), here's the minimum specs, I'd recommend:
·
CPU: At least an Intel
Core i3~i5 or AMD Athlon or A6 APU. Go for at least a dual core CPU.
·
GPU: Even the integrated
graphics card in the CPU would suffice but if possible, grab at least a low or
mid-end graphics card.
·
RAM: 4 ~8GB may sufficient
but I'd opt in for a 16GB one.
·
Storage: A 300 GB is good
enough for me in this category but try getting a higher capacity drive, or an
SSD.
·
Display: Go for at least
a 13-inch screen with at least a 1366x768 resolution.
For the programmer that develops graphically and/or
computationally intense, here's the minimum specs I'd recommend:
·
CPU: At least an Intel
Core i7, or AMD Athlon or A8 APU. Quad core will bring you power - quad power!
(Get it? It's a NES Nintendo ad reference. Nope? Damn, I just made a bad pun)
·
GPU: Never just rely on
the integrated graphics on this one. Insert a high-end NVidia GeForce or AMD
Radeon card here.
·
RAM: 8GB.. Your laptop
might crawl if it's smaller but then again, it's just my opinion.
·
Storage: A 1TB would be
great cause many graphically/computationally intense applications may demand
more land (hard drive space). I'm looking at you Call of Duty: Ghosts with a
whopping 50GB disk space requirement.
·
Display: Go for at least
a 15-inch screen with at least a 1920x1080 resolution. A higher pixel density
will be great.
Generally, I'd prefer the following specs:
·
CPU: Intel Core i7 (six
cores), choose latest generation.
·
GPU: NVidia GeForce 820,
980, or Titan (not sure though but I might go with an NVidia Quadro FX 3600).
In the AMD side, I'd definitely go for the AMD R9 M200 Series, or AMD FirePro
M6100.
·
RAM: 16 - 32 GB! Why?
It's because I love opening multiple applications and running tons of
processes.
·
Storage: Maybe I'd go for
a 1TB SSD for the primary drive (applications), and a 1 TB HDD (hard drive) for
my personal files, else you can go for 256GB SSD & 1TB HDD.
·
Display: I'd like to have
a 15 - 17 inch laptop with a 3200x2400 resolution. Bigger screen estate means
more apps I can see at once on the screen.
The
specs above is purely my opinion but we all have a preference. I'm using window
10 in office & for fun too.
DISCLAIMER: The first three specs I wrote are the minimum specs I'd recommend and are purely my opinion. Also, I didn't include the battery life since it may vary across laptops.
